This is a harrowing and heart-wrenching account of the struggle endured by "Anne" and her mother, "Grace", to understand and cope with Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD). The sheer dysfunctionality of the family as a whole, which is a contributory factor to the condition, is horrifying. The reader cannot but marvel at the personal courage and determination of these two people, especially "Anne", in soldiering on in the face of utter indifference or complete incomprehension on the part of peers, friends and family members. The pain and mental anguish suffered by dissociative personalities is way outside the gamut of experience of "ordinary" people. For that reason alone, the book is riveting reading. It certainly rings the emotional changes. Your attitudes to mental illness will never be the same again.
