On 10 September 2006 two young Limerick children, Gavin and Millie Murray, were petrol-bombed as they sat in their mother Sheila's car. For days they fought to survive, and on many occasions Sheila was told to prepare to lose Gavin. Thankfully, and unbelievably, both youngsters survived, albeit with horrific injuries, physically and mentally, that will last them a lifetime. Yvonne Kinsella describes how Sheila dealt with the publicity after the attack, both positive and negative, and how, in the midst of all this, Noel Crawford, the father of her eldest two children, was gunned down at his brother's home on his fortieth birthday, in a case of mistaken identity. Interviews with witnesses to the attack, local journalists and gardai give a fly-on-the-wall view of the traumatic event. Written with the close involvement of Sheila Murray, Burned Alive looks at the effects of this dreadful attack on the whole family. It also examines the background to the attack, previous incidents in the estate and general crime in the Limerick area of Moyross, as well as looking at Sheila's relationship with a member of the notorious Keane family.
