In June 1940, the only military asset left to France was her Navy, the fourth largest in the world. Admiral Darlan, Commander of the French Fleet, was a notorious Anglophobe, and had issued orders to remain neutral. Churchill, however, against the advice of the Admiralty, was not prepared to rely on Darlan and consequently ordered a British attack on the French ships at Oran. This book describes and analyzes all aspects of this complex operation by drawing on original sources and interviews with participants. Nigel Jones has also written "Hitler"s Heralds", "The War Walk: A Journey along the Western Front" and "Messines: The Forgotten Victory".
