Part of the "Finding Out" series of six books, covering all the content and process skills in the primary science syllabuses used in the Caribbean, this book is split into three terms - finding out about water, air and living things. Tests are provided at the end of each term's work. The tests become gradually more difficult through the grades. The instructions, skills covered and answers, are all given in the teaching notes. Additional notes are included for teachers to help beginning readers and slow learners. Mathematical skills needed for science are developed and reinforced. Notes can be used by parents and guardians, not just teachers. Full descriptions of process skills developed by the course are included. Skills highlighted in each grade are listed, together with objectives for each week's work. Children are encourged to find out for themselves by carrying out a wide variety of activities. These activities use simple materials, and help to develop investigative and manipulative skills. Children make models and apply their knowledge as part of technology. Living things and non-living materials are collected from local surroundings.
The local community is used for exploration, and for discussion of pollution and conservation. Activities with soil, crops and soil conservation are included.
