The EVSL 195 Laboratory Manual: Global to Local Issues is a course designed for non-science and science majors alike. The manual takes students through basic and fundamental principles in environmental science, exploring the Earth's natural resources and ecosystems, and confronting concerns of overexploitation of those resources. The lab course is built to complement a lecture course but can stand alone, and while it focuses on coastal Carolina ecosystems, the activities can be adapted for other habitats as all issues explored are global issues of concern.

Students will become familiar with some of the many tools used to collect and analyse environmental data; water quality analyses, soil profiles and sampling, plant population survey techniques, map reading and report preparation. Throughout the manual, students are asked to apply the scientific method, social principles, and critical thinking skills to question and solve current environmental problems with the goal of producing students who are informed consumers, environmental stewards, and supporters of sustainable practices in today's society.
