This book captures some of the world's most recognizable musicians through exceptional photographs selected by Graham Nash, an internationally acclaimed artist of two media - photography and music. Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, and Johnny Cash share pages with Kurt Cobain, Sting, Michael Stipe, and many others in photographs by such photographers as Jim Marshall, Annie Leibowitz, Mark Seliger, Dennis Hopper, and others. The defining theme of the book will be Nash's selection of images, influenced by his personal knowledge of many of the musicians featured and his approach to fine photography as both a photographer and collector. The book coincides with an exhibition of the same name organized by Experience Music Project (EMP) in Seattle, WA. The exhibit will open January 2010 in Seattle and will tour thereafter. Experience Music Project is dedicated to the exploration of creativity and innovation in popular music.
By blending interpretative, interactive exhibitions with cutting-edge technology, EMP captures and reflects the essence of rock 'n' roll, its roots in jazz, soul, gospel, country, and the blues, as well as rock's influence on hip-hop, punk, and other recent genres. Visitors can view rare artifacts and memorabilia, and experience the creative process by listening to musicians tell their own stories.
