The role of industry in the development of Africa has been underplayed in the last decade by the western donors and the international institutions. This book, based upon a major research project at ODI, provides facts and analysis to combat what at times can only be described as ignorance. At one time it was the importance of agriculture which was disregarded both within Africa and internationally. Now it is the importance of industry which needs recognition.
