KDE (K Desktop is a free graphical desktop for Linux that provides Linux users with a customizable, user-friendly, Windows-like environment. KDE ships with all of the major distributions of Linux, including Red Hat, Caldera, SuSE, TurboLinux, and Corel Linux. It is generally considered the default interface for all but Red Hat. Ziff-Davis named KDE "Innovation of the Year 1998/99" at CeBIT; InfoWorld calls KDE "...more feature-rich than Windows 9x" (4/19/99); PC/Computing gave KDE 4 out of 5 (2/99); Fortune Magazine's technology columnist calls KDE "the most polished (Linux) GUI".
