Alton Douglas is the author/co-author of almost 50 books. A former professional comedian, TV scriptwriter and warm-up comic, actor, voiceover artiste, musician, radio jazz presenter and newspaper columinist he has built up a fund of unusual stories. Following the success of his biography, "The Original Alton Douglas" and its sequel, "I Forgot To Tell You", he now shares with us more of his mainly humorous anecdotes and thoughts. During a conversation with a sales assistant, in Waterstones, she asked, "You used to be a comedian didn't you? What did that entail?" I thought for a moment, "I wouldn't know where to start," I replied. "There were several summer seasons, including two in Blackpool and one with The Temperance Seven on the Isle of Wight. I played dame in panto a couple of times and principal boy opposite Helen Shapiro - even learned to sword fence for that." I paused again, "I suppose I must have worked most of the theatres in England, including the London Palladium and virtually every cabaret venue. Also, I recorded dozens of radio commercials, did nearly a thousand TV studio warm-ups, acted in radio and TV dramas and had my own television quiz series for three years."
She looked at me and then, with enormous pity in her voice, "God," she said, "That sounds boring."
