The book describes how to set about addressing the software needs in an organization by means of a three-phase method, which incorporates measuring its information processing requirements and building an enterprise model; utilizing twelve basic types of software applications by standardizing the components of software systems; paying particular attention to the user interface and the integration of the users' views; and constructing and refining prototypes to achieve the required system.
