Having completed a cycle tour through India I decided to go to Islamabad to meet a man whom I had met years earlier in Thailand who had intrigued me with stories of adventure in the wild North- West Frontier province. My background as a Chartered Surveyor served me well in Pakistan. Travel and work took me from the cities to the deserts and across the mountains to the border with Afghanistan. I was fascinated by that part of the world and had, years earlier, made a study of the life of Alexander the Great. I was now to see some of the historic places that he saw and tread the same soil. My loyalty to the 'boss', the curious stranger whom I had met in Thailand led me into this adventure, taking me across Asia, through China, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and the UK. As I embarked on this mysterious adventure, little did I know how intertwined my life was to become with that of the curious stranger nor did I realize what an exciting and at times, dangerous adventure was about to unfold.
