This text has been written with primary classroom teachers and teachers-in-training in mind. It has been designed to support and extend both teachers' and students' own knowledge and understanding of science, and should be of particular interest to those teachers and student teachers who see themselves as non-specialists. Throughout the book every effort has been made to interpret the ideas and concepts of science in accessible language, using everyday examples as illustrations. The book consists of three major sections: life and living processes, materials and their properties, and physical processes. For each section, key ideas are suggested and these are then expanded to include important related science concepts. At the end of each section, the National Curriculum Programme of Study is listed for the particular Attainment Target, together with a table showing how each of the concepts described contributes to a complete coverage of the requirements of the 1995 National Curriculum for Science.
