Unlawful Justice is one of those books that sticks with you for a long time. I had to stop reading a few times because its so emotional. The racial tension, the violence, and the emotional pain is all very real. Sometimes I felt that Liv was too naive. It bordered on annoying. However, it didn't ruin the book for me. Her and Grayson are interesting characters because they simply can't imagine how racist these people they had known forever were. While it would be easy to say "Oh come on! You had to know" I think its really honest. Truly you have no idea how some people feel deep down. You don't know what people are really capable of. How many times is there a major event and people go on the news and say things like "I would have never expected this from him/her". So, while their naivety is a bit annoying at times, it is because we, as the reader, are able to see the bigger picture. So, don't go into Unlawful Justice unless you are prepared for some heavy, real topics. Trigger Warning: A character is raped. While the rape is not described, the event is brutal and might be difficult for some to read.
