This report is aimed to meet the requirements of those having a general knowledge of bridge engineering and asset management but requiring information about the performances and specific requirements of iron and steel bridges. The objectives of the report are to provide and explain good practice, provide guidance for general application and provide a source of information relevant to iron and steel bridges. To this end, examples of successful schemes are cited and described. In addition, case-histories are provided of both successful and unsuccessful examples of repair and strengthening projects.
