Chicago firm Krueck and Sexton Architects has made its mark with designs that draw from classic modernism as well as from current architectural discourse. Partners Ron Krueck and Mark Sexton both studied architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where they were steeped in the pure modernism of Mies van der Rohe. From this foundation, they developed a distinctive visual language influenced by art as much as by architecture, as evidenced in their impeccably designed and constructed buildings. As Krueck and Sexton write in the introduction: "The path of our work was advanced by the making of our work. It established the understanding of the connections the space that was required between the parts and delineated the proportion and scale." This oversize volume covers the full 40 years of the firm's work. It includes 22 projects, from the seminal Steel and Glass House to the enormously popular Crown Fountain in Chicago's Millennium Park, to a 375,000-square-foot federal office building in Florida. Krueck + Sexton Architects vaulted to national prominence with their Steel and Glass House of 1981.
The firm has developed a design approach characterised by devotion to client needs and a dedication to craft. Partners Ron Krueck and Mark Sexton have worked together since 1980.
