"Calculus: the language of change" is the second edition of the calculus reform materials formerly called "Calculus using mathematica". Designed to meet the needs of what has become a large market, it tones down more radical reforms, adds new drill exercises, and includes Maple V as well as "Mathematica" (version 2.3). The second edition continues to emphasize thorough grounding in limits, derivatives, and integrals, especially in engineering applications. This work contains a completely reorganized new curriculum aimed at training students for technical careers in areas from modern finance to engineering. The text provides core training in calculus making full use of modern computing to accelerate learning of important topics. It also gives students basic proficiency in using either Maple or Mathematica. The projects enable students to experience "speaking language" of calculus on their choice of a broad spectrum of topics. Computing makes it possible for students to solve realistic open-ended problems while they are learning basic calculus. Materials include the core text, a soft bound book of student projects, and a computer CD. The CD contains Mathematica 3.0 notebooks and Maple version 4 worksheets that are fully integrated with the text.
In addition, the CD contains some optional text topics and a background book explaining the theory behind calculus.
