Perspectives on Justice introduces students to justice as a field of study and a matter of importance in everyone's life. Justice is an elusive idea, hard to define, and even harder to put into practice. Debates about what justice entails have occurred throughout the history of civilization and can be found at every level – from families to international organizations.

Readings are designed to introduce fundamental concepts of justice and encourage critical thinking and debate about how to implement these ideals. Studying these readings, and the commentary and questions that surround them, will create awareness of classic and contemporary concepts of justice as they exist in theory and in action.

Perspectives on Justice is organized around five broad areas that raise justice concerns:

  • Citizenship, Migration, and Human Rights
  • Social Identities and Communities
  • Media, Culture, and Technology
  • Law, Policy, and Social Change
  • Globalization, Sustainability, and Economic Justice

Students learn how to analyze arguments about justice and injustice in a social context, and develop critical thinking skills to apply perspectives about justice to particular situations.

The goal is to help students develop a repertoire and understanding of key concepts associated with economic and social justice.
