This volume is concerned with British Romantic writers, their families and the other writers from the period (mainly women) who were their inspiration, but who do not get recognition in the Romantic canon. The author analyses central themes in the works of the Romantic writers which have a direct parallel with debates in women's studies and feminism today.
For example, it looks at the domestic context of Wordsworth's poetry, spinsters' critique of heterosexuality in Jane Austen's work, and feminist discourse present in Wollstonecraft's "French Adventure" at the time of the French Revolution.
