The contribution of Philip Pouncey (1910-1990) to the study of Italian old master drawings is explored in this catalogue of Italian drawings from the 15th- to the 18th-century. Drawn largely from the British Museum, the great masters such as Michelangelo and Raphael are represented as well as numerous minor artists whose work Pouncey made his particular field of study. His diligent accumulation of material on hundreds of different artists is illustrated by examples of his notes and papers, as well as by letters to and from colleagues. Other work by the author includes "Drawings by Guercino" and "Florentine Drawings".
