Long divided by cultural, economic and political differences, the Asia-Pacific region has little history of multilateral cooperation. The end of the Cold War, however, has prompted a search for new means of conflict resolution and confidence building. Increasingly regionalized production and the removal of barriers to intra-regional trade promise the integration of an economy of unrivalled potential. This volume explores the relevance of the literature on international regimes for the Asia-Pacific region, and evaluates the lessons for cooperation in the security field from regional economic collaboration.
