First released in 1985, and with 8 reprints, this edition of this important down-to-earth approach to teaching children to sleep through the night has had a design and cover makeover, as well as incorporating updated information. This edition is a result of a request by Plunket, and repeated requests from parents who have contact with the James family? Leslie Centre. More than a quarter of all young children regularly wake in the night. This book is for their parents. The methods described are based on the belief that a good night?s sleep is essential for both children and parents. The longevity of the book reflects the sound advice given. The text explores myths about children and their sleep patterns, how clever children are at manipulating their parents to get out of sleeping, how untenable patterns of non-sleep begin and how to prevent and remedy these, what parents can do to encourage sleep, and how to maintain a good sleep pattern. It?s a commonsense approach to a universal problem. Case studies back up the efficacy of the programme, and there is information on other resources to utilise for help. There?s a Kiwi kid on the cover now! His name is Charlie.
