Comprehensive, detailed and practical, "The Gaffer's Handbook" is a manual covering the day-to-day practices, equipment and tricks of the trade essential to the motion picture gaffer. It offers a wealth of practical technical information and simple techniques as well as aesthetic discussions. The book focuses on what is important when working on-set - trouble shooting, teamwork, set protocol, and safety. It describes tricks and techniques for operating a vast array of lighting equipment including: Xenons; camera synchronous strobes; underwater units; and lighting effects units. This is a 'European' edition of the American book "Set Lighting technician's Handbook: film lighting equipment, practice, and electrical distribution" authored by Harry Box. Sensitively revised by Brian Fitt, to retain the author's own special approach, the changes take into account the differences in equipment, working practices and electrical distribution systems that pertain in Europe, whilst keeping the essence of the book unchanged. The title has also been changed to reflect the buyers of the book - namely the GAFFERS.
