This is a title in a series which presents each topic through a combination of text, illustrations and reconstructions. The author assesses the evidence and invites readers to draw their own conclusions. In this book Matthews looks at serious accounts of sightings of ghosts past and present, seen by people who are often in every sense "sound of mind" at the time of the experience. The author looks at the circumstances of each sighting and at the explanations that people have put forward. A great variety of ghosts are described - some ghosts seem to be reliving something that happened in the past - such as when ghosts of American Civil War soldiers were seen fighting on a battlefield a year after the battle had taken place and poltergeists which have been known to move large objects with ease. Amongst the range of intriguing examples that are featured is the regular sighting of a 17th century man in the English city of Bath and King George V's sighting of the ghostly ship "The Flying Dutchman". The author has also written "The Spinechilling Book of Horror".
