A proposal for "The Figure" an exhibition of the human figure in painting and drawing organized by the Midwest Paint Group and the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center. The Human Figure continues to be the measure. Not only does it continue to be the measure of an artist's ability to see and respond to relationships, but continues to be the measure of where we are as a culture, as a generation of artists and aesthetic thinkers. Through the ages, as its great caryatid, the Human Figure has carried art, shouldering the bulk of aesthetic expression. This exhibition, The Human Figure by the Midwest Paint Group and associates, is a reflection of the Figure surfacing once again as a measure, a celebration and a small window into who we are; of where we are.
