A science fiction novel about a future religious civil war. It is written in two parts the first chronicles a team investigating an attack on one of their empire's fringe worlds. The Investigation runs into problems when a group of scavenger beasts decide that the team is their next meal. The second story is more apocalyptic, following a handful of characters as they witness the annihilation of their entire world. Their is strong religious undertones in the story with several of the culture prayers included to further the knowledge of the conflict.
