Sir Ernest Alfred Wallis Budge (1857-1834), became the keeper of the Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities at the British Museum in 1894, an office he held for thirty years. On behalf of the museum, he led a number of expeditions to the Middle East where he carried out work on numerous archaeological sites. The Egyptian Sudan undoubtedly a classic of its kind. It springs from the author's missions to the Sudan between 1897 and 1905, during which period many important archaeological sites were explored. The work contains a precise record of these antiquities along with a detailed history of the Sudan and accounts given by early travellers. This fine two-volume facsimile edition retains the wealth of illustrative material that graced the original edition of 1907. Over fifty photographs and almost three hundred maps, diagrams and drawings are here included.
