In 1991, Kevin Callan was convicted of the murder of his girlfriend's four-year-old daughter, Mandy, a sufferer from cerebral palsy. A catalogue of ill-informed medical testimony saw him go down for life. Yet Kevin was devoted to Mandy and had looked after her with dedicated care. Burning with rage at his wrongful imprisonment, he set out to learn all about head injuries (the supposed cause of death) and by reading and corresponding with experts, he eventually succeeded in getting his conviction overturned, by proving Mandy could not have died in the manner originally alleged. Kevin was freed in 1995 after serving four years in prison.
