Salmons & Sons was founded in 1830 by Joseph Salmons and quickly became famous for its high-quality horse-drawn coaches, dog-carts, and rally-carts. From 1898 onward it began to build bespoke motor coachwork for all makes of automobile chassis. The company expanded rapidly and from 1902 had extensive premises in London, and by the 1920s had showrooms in the city s West End. Several important developments in car hood design ensured continuing success throughout 20th century, including the Tickford winding hood, patented in 1925. In 1939 the family business became a limited company, and following the retirement of the Salmons brothersgrandsons of Joseph Salmonsthe company was renamed Tickford Ltd in 1943. Now a part of Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd, this is the history of the internationally renowned company and its long-established tradition of high quality coachwork."
