This fictional novel based on actual events is the story of Charles Manson-- a petty criminal who became a hippie cult leader. He orchestrated the 1969 murders of movie actress Sharon Tate and her friends in Los Angeles to ignite a race war he called "Helter Skelter": a term taken from The Beatles' "White Album", which Manson believed had hidden messages within the songs prophesizing a violent armageddon that would wipe out the white race. The novel chronicles his childhood, criminal career, and the events that led to the notorious Tate-Labianca murders.
