Octavius Isaac Etienne, a wild and brash young Haitian-Canadian student living in Ottawa, Ontario, feels spiritually barren and lost after getting excommunicated from his old-fashioned Haitian Church. They've had it with his misdeeds this time. Feeling lost, shunned by his community, Octavius finds solace in a most unlikely place. Jannah Kumar, the headstrong and beautiful daughter of a Guyanese Indian Muslim immigrant family. Jannah teaches Octavius about Islam, and they end up falling in love. Thus their troubles begin.
