This is a unique historical archive, brought to life for the first time in CD format. Veteran journalist John Roberts, the "Daily Express"' former north west sports writer, spoke to football icon Dixie Dean as part of his project to produce Everton's official centenary history publication, released in 1978. Subjects ranging from the modern game, his career at Everton and of course, the 1927/28 season when he scored a record-breaking 60 goals during the top flight season were amongst the topics discussed, all recorded on cassette tape, which have recently been retrieved. As an added bonus we have included Dean recollections from another Everton and footballing legend, the great Joe Mercer, another of the club's favourite sons who, like Dean, was interviewed as part of Roberts' project. A genuine piece of football history, Dean reveals his belief that only one person will ever be able to eclipse his 60-goal record...'Jesus is the only man who will'.
