The author has sketched a tale for children based on reminiscences and fantasies from his own childhood. The story follows the travels of a King Penguin captured by fishermen visiting its remote South Atlantic island. Through various adventures and misadventures, both below and above the waves, the penguin eventually lands up on a beach on the mainland, and seems to be destined for the local museum - until Mother Nature intervenes. The story is brightly illustrated by Du Plessis, using wide sea- and landscapes that evoke the vastness in which Mr King finds himself stranded. In each frame, and at whatever scale, the reader's eye is drawn to the penguin, with its bright orange eye, beak and cheek coloration. The story introduces a range of creatures from the region, including whales, sharks, and other seabirds, including three other varieties of penguin. This will become a favourite with children everywhere.
