COM and DCOM are Microsoft's client/server programming technologies (competing with CORBA) that enable programmers and IS personnel to create distributed applications -- applications that live on NT (or Internet or intranet) servers and are distributed to client computers as needed, minimizing problems for both administrators and users. COM and DCOM technologies are currently part of the NT 4 and Windows 95/98 operating systems.
