The contents of this book are designed as a course of work for those wishing to learn how to use the CAD software AutoCAD. With the introduction of Release 11 of AutoCAD an extension programme the Advanced Modeling Extension (AME) was introduced. Details of 3-D solid model drawings produced with the aid of AME are included. Also included are descriptions of drawings produced for the stand-alone software AutoShade. This book does not intend to give complete and full descriptions of all the methods by which drawings can be constructed in AutoCAD. Practically any technical illustration which can be produced using hand methods can be drawn in AutoCAD. However, only those features which allow the reader to achieve a reasonable standard of drawing with the its aid are included here. All line drawings in this book have been constructed with the aid of AutoCAD 386, together with AME and AutoShade, working with an Epson AX3 (80386 CPU chip) computer, with 4 megabytes of extended memory. The drawings (both black line and colour plots) were plotted on a Roland plotter. Drawing with CAD software has one great advantage over drawing by hand.
This is of being able to produce drawings much more quickly. Any drawing or part of a drawing can be arrayed, copied, dimensioned, inserted, moved, mirrored or rotated, without its having to be re-drawn. Another speed of drawing factor is in the ability to add text in a variety of styles easily and quickly when working with CAD software such as AutoCAD.
