This is the second volume in the two volume set on "Composite Structures of Steel and Concrete". It is based on the use of limit-state design when using the composite structures of steel and concrete in the construction of bridges. This rewritten edition includes commentary on the use of Part 3 "Design of steel bridges of British Standard 5400", together with Parts 2, 4, 5 and 10 for superstructures of composite bridges. Relevant clauses of the Eurocodes are explained, with emphasis on draft Eurocode 4, "Composite Steel and Concrete Structures", which was issued by the EEC in 1986 for comment by the member states. There is a fully-worked example of design to BS 45400 of a continuous composite plate girder for a motorway bridge, and revised design calculations for a 36-metre span footbridge using an open-top steel box girder and precast concrete deck slabs. This book is designed for practising engineers and students who require an understanding of recent limit-state methods for the analysis and design of composite bridges.
