Since the 2003 American-led invasion to liberate the people of Iraq from the tyranny of Saddam Hussein, the US military has been embroiled in a dangerous counter-insurgency operation. This book examines the wide range of US Army vehicles at the forefront of this counter-insurgency, many of them modified or introduced specifically as a result of this ongoing conflict in Iraq.

This volume is the first in a two-part series. It takes a look at particular vehicle types section by section - namely the M2 Bradley IFV and M3 Bradley CFV, M113 family, ASK and HArD kits for Humvees, M1117 Guardian, RG-31 Medium Mine Protected Vehicle, Buffalo Mine Protected Clearance Vehicle, Meerkat MDV and Husky T/MDV, Rhino Runner Bus, Shadow 200 UAV, and D7G and D9R Bulldozers. This is quite a varied list of vehicles, and some will be unfamiliar to many readers. The book is bursting with background information and technical data, as well as how vehicles are being employed by the U.S. Army in Iraq. The text also highlights the special modifications made to vehicles in-theatre. An example of this is the Add-on Armor Suite (closely resembling the slat armor found on Strykers) fitted to the M113.

The book contains four color plates by Laurent Lecocq, as well as two 1/35 scale plans. This book is insightful, and gives a very up-to-date study of current US Army vehicles in Iraq. Photos are of a high quality, and mostly show vehicles in action with their crews. In terms of depth and variety of coverage, this book is simply unbeatable!
