It did get a little too rambly for my taste towards the end, but Ms. Poelher's autobiography is warm, honest, and funny.

While overall I’m completely obsessed with Amy and this book because it is just oozing with her personality, there were a few times it was a little slow for me. Would highly suggest to her top fans - I laughed and I cried, both times in public walking my friend’s dogs. (I listened to this on audiobook.)

I loved it because I'm still on a high after binging all of Parks & Rec earlier this year, but I'm also disappointed that it didn't give me a great sense of who Amy Poehler is. Reading Mindy Kaling's first book back before The Mindy Project started made me want to be her best friend. Yes Please had plenty of bits that made me smile and laugh out loud and I was more pleased than I ought to be to find out Leslie Knope and Ann Perkins are close friends in real life, but I never got the sense we were hearing Amy's actual voice.

Listened to this via my girlfriend's Audible app. It was definitely an entertaining look into Amy Poehler's life that was made all the better with her reading it with friends. I also loved Parks and Rec and this gave some great inside looks into that as well.

I wanted to like this, I really did, because I adore Amy Poehler. But the essays in this book needed some heavy-duty editing. They just kind of meandered, stream-of-consciousness style, and didn't seem to have much of a point beyond "these things happened to me." There were line breaks were there shouldn't have been, and vice versa. Her pronouns were sometimes vague, like I wasn't sure which person this "he" is supposed to be attached to, which made the stories confusing for a few lines until I used context clues to figure it out. And... I didn't really find it that funny. Maybe she wasn't intending it to be comedic, but you pick up a book by an SNL alumna, you're going to expect some laughs. I enjoyed the chapter on Parks and Recreation, and some of the anecdotes featuring her SNL colleagues, but apart from those things, it felt like she was just trying to fill up pages and didn't have much to say. I went in expecting something more akin to Bossypants and Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? and came out pretty disappointed. :(

The thing about memoirs is that they are either really inspiring, or else they are just sort of meh. Even in her prologue, Poehler makes it clear she was totally not into this whole "writing a book" thing. And that's great. The honesty is great. In fact, I thought the book started off really well. I was chuckling at parts and found it fascinating to hear about her starts in improv, and overall her brutal honest about things. However, I didn't like the disjointed style where it went from this short story to a poem to four long chapters about Parks and Recreation.

She tries very hard to appeal to all sorts of fans, despite her repeated insistence that she doesn't like meeting new people or, particularly, fans. She spends a little time on her history, a little time on her kids, a little time on SNL, a little time on opinions, and a little time on Parks and Rec. Many of the stories feel unfinished and by the time I was nearing the end of the book, I was bored. I daresay it would have grown bored much more quickly if not for the quirky recording of the audiobook to keep me listening.

As an actress and comedian, Poehler puts a lot of herself into the recording and that certainly added to the experience. She had several guest stars, even if only for a line or two, and even brought on her parents. All that was fun and interesting.

In reading other reviews of this book, it comes up that she does often complain about writing a book, and that she seems stuck up about the whole thing. My view on this is that it is simply amazing the standards to which we hold our celebrities. I found her to be very genuine and even a bit uncomfortable about the ordeal, and actually thought her honesty about the whole process was admirably, and not at all off-putting.

I love the cover. I feel as though that is the least important observation, so that goes last, but the cover is very eye-catching and fun.
