Quirky Cat
Summary:
Fire has always been a thing of nightmares for many. In this world, people are at risk of spontaneously combusting and turning into Infernals. An Infernal wants only one thing - to destroy. They are no longer considered human. That is where the Fire Force comes into play. They must protect the people.
Company 8 has wandered into the Abyss – and that's not some metaphorical phrase. They are in real danger as they enter the underground caverns that have become (have always been?) the Nether. Each member of the team will have their own unique fight to face.
Review:
I think it's safe to say that I have mixed feelings about Fire Force Vol. 9. On the one hand, a lot of plot advancement is happening here (not to mention a lot of info we've desperately been waiting for). On the other hand, at least one of the fights in this volume made me want to scream – and not in a good way.
The good: This volume has several fights, though one in particular took my breath away. It was that perfect balance of tense and compelling. Okay, it didn't hurt that it had a character I love at the forefront (one who could use more attention, mind you). Likewise, we're finally learning more about the Andola bursts and about a million other things readers have been asking about.
The bad: Ugh. While there was a good fight in this volume, there's one that isn't...so great. It could have been a redeeming moment for how Tamaki has been handled this whole time. After all, she had somebody to protect and a reason why she couldn't afford to lose. But nope! The fan service came back into full swing during her fight, and it's SO BAD.
