A design sourcebook for the embroiderer, providing suggestions for work and showing how a design can be transferred from paper onto a fabric. An opening chapter explains the meaning of design and offers suggestions on gathering information and inspiration. Collage, frottage, monoprinting, paper-tearing, stencils, watercolour and charcoal are some suggested media and ideas, textures, tones and colours are discussed. Advice on how to develop designs and interpret them is given and different textile ideas are suggested for each project. The collection of illustrations includes the work of a wide cross-section of artists, photographers and embroiderers. Muriel Best is also the author of "Stumpwork".
