This book forms part of the Macmillan Secondary Mathematics Series which has been written to correspond to the National Criteria for GCSE Mathematics examinations, and to the Mathematics National Curriculum assessment and testing framework. In particular the X-stream of books are for use of pupils who are intending going on to the lower and intermediate levels of the GCSE Mathematics examination. Book 5X further extends the skills which have already been used in Books 3X and 4X, provides necessary revision of topics, and places a greater emphasis on the use and application of mathematics in everyday life and the world of work. As such, Book 5X supports the series, but can also stand alone as a revision text book for those students who are either re-taking or revising GCSE. It may also appeal to mature students, and indeed to others taking non-GCSE courses in Mathematics and Numeracy, such as City & Guilds, RSA or courses certificated by other means.
