This book is taken from a series which deals with different aspects of the lives of people of bygone times. Each book from the series deals with a particular area of their existence. It also provides background information about the period. This book takes a detailed look at farming in Ancient Egypt. The author examines the transition from nomadic lifestyles to early civilization and carefully considers the reasons why the fertile lands around rivers in the Middle East, and the Nile in particular, were conducive to the formation of the first farms. She describes the involvement of the whole farming community in the various tasks undertaken by Ancient Egyptian farmers. The book includes illustrations of paintings on the walls of tombs which provide us with evidence about the lives and works of Ancient Egyptians. She gives a basic insight into the different lifestyles of wealthy and poor families. The author has written several other books for Wayland, including "Archaeology" in the "Topics" series.
