GAML is part of a programme of graded assessment in a range of subjects, administered by LEAG (London East Anglian Group for GCSE). GAML is a scheme of assessment intended primarily for use by pupils in the 11-16 age range. The scheme has 8 levels. Levels 1 and 2 are suitable for pupils at the first stage of language learning and form the basis of more extensive and sophisticated language use at a later stage. Each level is divided into modules dealing with different topics, assessment of which is continuous and cumulative. The materials at levels 1 and 2 are available in a variety of forms, while materials for levels 3-8 are available in progress card packs. A bulk pack is available for levels 1 and 2 with all ten module packs, each of which contains 30 progress cards (to record achievement) and 15 cue cards (to stimulate language practice), plus a teacher's book. This is intended to provide material for an entire class at the first stage of language learning. The materials in subsequent levels such as this are designed to build on the foundation provided by levels 1 & 2. All the component parts are available separately, and sample packs are also available.
It is not based on a particular course or syllabus, and can be used in conjunction with any teaching programme.
