Rosemarie Trockel has been known to a broad public at the very least since her House for Pigs and People, developed in cooperation with Carsten Höller, created a furor at the Documenta X. For her famously ironic knitted images, the artist (*1952 in Schwerte) decontextualized typical “feminine” arts and crafts techniques, making industrially knitted pieces out of political or consumer-themed motifs such as the hammer and sickle, or the Playboy Bunny. For her works, which take on a variety of forms, Trockel employs very different media and technologies, but she always accompanies them with drawings, which either serve as studies or are developed as independent works. This publication presents selected groups of graphic prints, along with a series of drawings and collages made especially for this book, as well as the designs for the book, seen for the first time ever.
