Martin Cooper (1910-86), was one of the leading critics of the post-war period and chief music critic of "The Daily Telegraph" from 1954-7 as well as a broadcaster and author of a number of books on music including "French Music from the Death of Berlioz to the Death of Faure" (1951) and books on "Gluck", "Bizet" and "Opera Comique". However, his writings were not confined to music. This volume is a selection of his writings, both public and personal, compiled by his son, which includes essays on poets, philosophers, religious thinkers and awareness, and the nature of criticism itself together with essays on music.
