In November 2011 Laure Prouvost was announced as winner of the Max Mara Art Prize that includes a six-month residency in Italy based at the British School in Rome, and at the Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto in Biella. The Prize also includes funding for the winning artist to produce a new work or works that are exhibited at the Whitechapel Gallery, London and at the Collezione Maramotti, Italy. Inspired by the aesthetic and sensuous pleasures of Italy Prouvost's installation Farfromwords and its integral film Swallow (2013), give a distinct nod to the history Grand Tour, allowing attitudes of the Enlightenment to resonate in the twenty-first century. Texts by Afterall editor Melissa Gronlund and Whitechapel Gallery Eisler Curator Daniel F. Herrmann locate Prouvost's commission within the history of the description of pleasure, and an interview with the artist by Guest Curator Bina von Stauffenberg explores the background to Prouvost's work.
