This is the heart-warming story of the remarkable relationship between a paraplegic and his carer. In "The Para and the Pensioner", Steve Roberts gives an amazingly upbeat account of what others would regard as a tragedy. Before he was thirty, Steve was paralysed following a road accident and a hospital blunder, which led to him selling his business and the breakdown of his marriage. However, Steve was determined to live as normally as possible and his priorities were to get treatment to help him walk again, and to sue the hospital that left his broken back undiagnosed for seven days. For the next dozen years, Steve was looked after by several women, then a pensioner who he calls Ceebs (short for Caring Bond), became his carer and his life was completely transformed. Steve had found his soul mate and over their decade together they have shared an idyllic holiday to France, moved to the Norfolk countryside and have taken up village life and its many activities. Even though Steve has now developed cancer, he says that he would live through all the troubles that life has dealt him again, just to be with Ceebs.
