This will be the first book that focuses on the zero energy/zero carbon design of houses. The book starts with design approaches that aim to avoid the need for space heating of houses in much of the UK climate zones. The book aims to indicate how houses can be designed to maintain a comfortable internal thermal environment principally with solar, ambient and incidental gains. This approach enables the avoidance of conventional space heating systems and also substantially reduces the household energy demand thus reducing space heating related CO2 emissions. The book also looks at demand reduction options for the other energy uses in households and how they can be supplied with renewable energy sources. This will also be the first book to explain/describe building integrated renewable energy technologies that can supply or match the various household demands with CO2-free or low CO2 energy.
