At the age of seven, Brenton Wilson discovered he was suffering from the life-threatening disease, muscular dystrophy. In this account of his life in Australia, Brenton portrays how the illness affected him and how he coped with it. In particular, his ongoing participation in sport and exercise helped him in a determined effort to fight the disease. Through his descriptions of life in a residential home, and of marriage and the difficulties this brought with it, Brenton expresses needs and feelings familiar to everyone. Until his death at the age of 22, Brenton believed he had been robbed of living time on account of decisions made about his care.
