Bangkok is the capital of Thailand; it has the largest land area. In Thai language Bangkok is as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon; it means "city of angels" for short.
Having been declared as the capital of Siam, Bangkok had to face stiff challenges. Right from the time of the city's inception as the capital of Siam, it was a target of European colonial plans, but due to its strategic location in Indochina, it acted as a buffer-zone and brokered power between the European forces.
