Critical introductions to a range of literary topics and genres. An overview of Modernism is provided, but the book recognises that the term should not become a strait-jacket into which we try to fit a writer's individual distinctiveness. Rather, siginificant poetry and prose works are explored in the light both of the events of the time and of other 'modernist' developments in areas such as music, architecture and the visual arts.
